"When the late Dr. Gopinadhan Paliyath I founded Psigryph Incorporated, our goal was to create technology products that had the power to help improve the lives of people across the country and to change the modern medical landscape," CEO Sean Thompson says in a press release.

"While Dr. Paliyath is sadly no longer with us, I carry his dreams with me and ensure the world never forgets him."

Paliyath, a native of India who worked in Canada's pharmaceutical industry for more than 20 years, died in June at the age of 69 after a long battle with cancer, the CBC reports.

Thompson, who is black, says he was inspired to start Psigryph after seeing Paliyath's own struggle with cancer as a young man.

Psigryph, which aims to improve the health of humans across the globe through the creation of natural products using a patented technology called Nanopec, aims to increase western consumption of natural products with known health benefits, according to its website.

The company's products include natural toothpastes, skin care products, and dietary supplements.

Hope Blooms is a social enterprise comprising of young entrepreneurs from north-end Halifax, Canada. It started as a community garden where  students planted seeds and tended crops in an abandoned property in their neighborhood.
