New Mexico's Do ? 'a Ana County has one of the nation's highest rates of substance abuse and mental health problems, and officials are now aiming to do something about it.
The county's Local Collaborative 3 has teamed up with the Paso del Norte Health Foundation to create a plan to improve mental health and substance use services in the area, KVIA reports.
Officials say they want to build a behavioral health system that is "inclusive, organized, and centered on the individual and family."
The Collaborative says it invited mental health providers, state and local officials, law enforcement, fire department, local schools and colleges, nonprofit organizations, and community advocates to a two-day "Strategic Reboot" event last week, where they reviewed results of a recent community needs assessment.
They also gathered ideas and spoke about existing strategies and interventions.
They concluded the focus will include youth services, legislative and funding, supportive and specialty services, crisis services, housing services, and care coordination.
