The US is home to more B-Corps than any other country, with more than 2,000 companies now B-Corps, or socially responsible companies, according to the B Lab, a nonprofit that runs the certification program.
But awareness of the B-Corp brand is low, with just 25% of people globally knowing about it, according to B Lab's annual report.
That's a problem in countries like the UK, where a coalition of businesses is pushing for an amendment to the Better Business Act that would add social and environmental impact to the "'job description' of company directors," the Guardian reports.
In the US, the number of B-Corps rose from 46 to 65 last year, but awareness is still low, with just 25% of Americans knowing about B-Corps, according to the B Lab's annual report.
In countries like the UK, support for adding social and environmental impact to the "'job description' of company directors is wide-ranging, with 85% of Labour supporters, 70% of Conservative supporters, and 89% of both Liberal Democrat and Green Party supporters in favor of the proposed amendment, according to the B Lab's annual report.
