More than $3 million in state funding is going to 64 not-for-profit land trusts in New York state to protect water quality, prevent farmland conversion, boost public access to outdoor recreation, and conserve open space, Gov.

Kathy Hochul announced Tuesday.

The grants, awarded through the Conservation Partnership Program, "are a critical component to preserving our State's natural beauty and enhancing local communities," Hochul said in a press release.

One of the projects, the Otsego Land Trust in western New York, will receive a $100,000 stewardship and resource management grant, the Democrat and Chronicle reports.

Since the program's creation in 2002, more than $31 million has been awarded to 94 land trusts, the Land Trust Alliance says.

"This new round of Conservation Partnership Program grants signals a strong commitment to protecting the health and wellbeing of New Yorkers and the environment and will leverage the strengths of New York's land trust community to protect treasured local outdoor places and help provide important climate benefits," the alliance's CEO says.
