Home Depot co-founder Bernie Marcus has donated $10 million to help people with mental illness and their families, the Houston Chronicle reports.
The mega-donor, who founded the Marcus Foundation 20 years ago, says he decided to donate the money to help people with mental illness and their families after seeing first-hand how hard it is to get the help they need.
"There's a lot of people who have serious mental illness who don't have access to the care they need," he says.
"It's not something that's going to be solved by the federal government.
It's something that's going to be solved by private philanthropy."

The donation comes as the number of people with mental illness is on the rise.
