From Planning to Action: Rethinking the Role of Cities in Accelerating Net-Zero Transitions

New York City is on a mission to be "carbon-free" by the year 2050and it's not just because it's the biggest city in the world.

In fact, it's on track to be one of the world's "carbon-free" cities by the end of the century, the Guardian reports.

According to a United Nations report, at least 1,000 "net-zero" cities around the world are on a path to become carbon-free by the end of the century, and New York is in the lead, with a goal of being carbon-free by the end of this century and completely carbon-free by the end of the century.

The New York City Department of Transportation has set a goal of being carbon-free by the end of this century and completely carbon-free by the end of the century, the Guardian reports.
