Citywide Open Studios Retools During Pandemic

Citywide Open Studios went virtual in 2020 with more than 200 participating artists. The New Haven alternative space and gallery used the opportunity to rethink how it engaged with audiences through on-line events and programs.

When Ericka Huggins heard the news that the COVID-19 virus had struck New Haven, Conn., she decided to do something about it.

The Black Panther activist was scheduled to appear at a series of public events to mark the 50th anniversary of the trials of seven members of the party who were accused of murder, but the COVID-19 outbreak forced the events to be canceled, reports the New Haven Register.

So Huggins took to Facebook Live to speak with Angela Y. Davis, a scholar and author who has written about the Black Panther movement, in a conversation that has been viewed more than 6,000 times. "This helped me understand that given the right content, we can connect to the world," says Dent.
