The Government was successful in encouraging more people to give more of their wealth to charity. The proposal in the Budget to cap charity tax reliefs is a brake on philanthropy, dissuading future donors.
People invest in charities for a variety of reasons like being touched by an issue being tackled or wishing to give back to a community. The current proposal will undermine the motivation to give generously, and will deprive charities of much-needed funds.
