Colonnades Theatre Lab, Inc. Grant

Organization - Colonnades Theatre Lab, Inc.
Grant Amount - $400,000
Foundation - Mott Foundation
Grant Purpose - The project goal is to share experiences from South Africa's process of truth, justice, and reconciliation with people from the Western Balkans. The grantee, the Colonnades Theatre Lab, Inc., has developed a stage production with music-called "Truth in Translation" that tells the story of the South African Truth and Reconciliation Commission through the eyes of the interpreters who translated the testimony of all those who appeared before the commission into the many languages spoken in the country. This grant will support staging of the play and related events in the Western Balkans over a five-week period in 2008. The play's Western Balkans tour will be carried out in cooperation with nongovernmental organizations in the region working on issues of dealing with the past and transitional justice. The Colonnades Theatre Lab, Inc. was established in 1973 to promote independent theater.
