Foundation - Mott Foundation
Grant Purpose - The Democracy Development Program works with civil society and government institutions in the KwaZulu-Natal province to promote citizen participation, a human rights culture, and good governance. Mott's support will promote community participation and entrench a culture of democracy and cooperation at the local level through the training of ward committee members (the elected structures that represent community interest at local government level), traditional structures, municipal councilors, and officials. This grant will support the Democracy Development Program to continue to promote community participation and to work with the same community and local government structures. It will use the lessons from the first phase of the program to inform its interventions with the various stakeholders.
