When it comes to drinking water, the US is way ahead of the rest of the world, according to a new study out of the University of Michigan.
The study, published in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences, looked at drinking-water quality around the world and found that the US has a long way to go before it catches up with other countries in terms of quality, the Guardian reports.
The researchers found that the US has a long way to go before it even catches up with Europe in terms of drinking-water quality, which they say is the result of a combination of factors, including population growth, changes in diet, and the amount of water used in everyday life.
The researchers say that in the next 20 years, the US will have to cut back on the use of bottled water by a third and rely more on natural sources for drinking water.
The researchers say that drinking-water quality is one of the biggest issues facing the world because of the amount of chemicals used in everyday life, as well as the amount of water that ends up in sewage treatment plants and wastewater treatment plants.
