"On those inevitable days where we're less eager to pull weeds in the rain before the sun fully rises, smiling faces and kind words greet us and make it a little easier."
That's how Ezikio Quintana describes his day at the National Tropical Botanical Garden's Limahuli Garden and Preserve on the Big Island of Hawaii, where he's serving as a member of the Conservation Leadership Development Program.
The program, put on by the nonprofit Kupu, is for recent high school graduates, college graduates, and young professionals who want to work in conservation, and the application deadline is June 21, reports Hawaii News Now.
During their eight-month term, participants will work alongside conservation experts at various sites on Kaua'i, where they'll learn about natural and aquatic resource management, marine biology, Hawaiian cultural studies, and more, per Kupu.
"It's a privilege and humbling responsibility to serve at Limahuli, and there's nothing I'd rather do," Quintana tells Hawaii News Now.
