The New Granada Building at Centre and Wylie avenues in Pittsburgh's Hill District has undergone renovations under the Hill Community Development Corp.
The building was once a theater that hosted jazz legends like Duke Ellington, Ella Fitzgerald and Billy Eckstine.
The $1 million infusion from the state will be "critically important" to funding the community group's efforts to breathe new life into a historic site.
