Philanthropy needs to pick a side on housing, says David Perry.
He says foundations are directing hundreds of millions of dollars to advocacy groups that often work to frustrate pro-housing legislative pushes.
Perry: California's housing crisis is a direct consequence of the state's failure to build enough housing, including unsubsidized market-rate housing.
The housing shortage is even endangering American democracy.
