"It is essential that homeowners go through the rebuilding process in the right order, or they could lose thousands of dollars, time, and energy."
That's the message from Jeff Gilbreath, executive director of Hawaii's Community Lending, which is offering free lot surveys to Lahaina homeowners who lost their homes in last year's Maui wildfires.
The survey costs an estimated $4.5 million, per the Maui News.
But thanks to a $3 million grant from the Maui Strong Fund of the Hawaii Community Foundation, Lahaina homeowners can now apply to receive the surveys at no cost, the Honolulu Star-Advertiser reports.
"We encourage all Lahaina homeowners who were living in their homes before the fire to enroll in the Lahaina Homeowner Recovery Program, and encourage your neighbors to enroll as well," Gilbreath says.
"This is a great news for Lahaina homeowners, and we mahalo the Maui Strong Fund of the Hawaii Community Foundation for recognizing this pressing need."
