When it comes to dealing with the effects of climate change, Rhode Island is no stranger to extreme weatherbut the state is now trying to do something about it, the Providence Journal reports.
According to a press release, the Green Infrastructure Coalition is holding its sixth annual Innovation Expo on Oct.
16 in Providence to "focus on effective partnerships between a wide range of organizations implementing green infrastructure and nature-based solutions making RI communities more resilient to the effects of climate change, including sea-level rise, flooding and increased precipitation, and warmer temperatures."
According to the press release, green infrastructure " slows down this polluted stormwater to be more naturally absorbed into the environment, instead of flowing into 'gray' stormwater infrastructure such as storm drains."
The event will include a panel discussion on the "Importance of Building Strong Statewide Partnerships for Climate Resilience" with David N.
Cicilline, president and CEO of the Rhode Island Foundation.
