"Back-to-back record years of philanthropic activity signal positive momentum as our donors and volunteers believe in the power of higher education to improve lives across the state of Washington and beyond."
So says Mike Connell, VP of Advancement at Washington State University, after the university announced a record $167.9 million in philanthropic support for the fiscal year that ended June 30.
That's up 8% over the previous year and a new high for the university, reports the Spokesman-Review.
"This unprecedented level of support is a testament to the generosity and vision of our alumni, friends, faculty, staff, students and other partners," says WSU system President Kirk Schulz.
Among the projects supported by the donations: a $5 million investment in a new engineering student success center, a pediatric medical residency program in Spokane, and $1 million for STEM education at WSU Vancouver.
