Herb Kohl is known for his support of education, especially in Wisconsin, and a $2 million donation to the Future Museum in Milwaukee is just the latest example of his generosity, the Milwaukee Journal-Sentinel reports.
According to a press release from the museum, Kohl "made an everlasting impact on our state, from growing up in Milwaukee's Sherman Park neighborhood, leading in business and public service, to keeping the Bucks in Milwaukee....
He also invested in early childhood and K-12 education and prioritized protecting and helping young people reach their potential."
The museum, set to open in 2027, is a "one-of-a-kind institution" that is "essential to fulfilling our mission of inspiring curiosity, exciting minds, and increasing desire to preserve and protect our world's natural and cultural diversity," says the president and CEO of the Milwaukee Public Museum, which is 70% of the way to its $80 million fundraising goal.
In addition to the $2 million donation from Kohl, the museum says it will provide free memberships to Wisconsin educators as part of its Wisconsin Wonders capital campaign.
The campaign has raised more than $50 million of the $80 million needed to build the museum.
