"Any conversation centered around Hip-Hop, most notably the southern region's impact on the genre, is null and void without mentioning Bun B," Vibe quotes the rapper as saying in a recent interview.
"The Hip-Hop legend has successfully contributed to the musical landscape as we know it while highlighting the specific contributions from his hometown, Houston."
In the interview, Bun B says Houston's rap scene was "known to be very self-sufficient, and many of the artists here were independently funded and had to do a lot for themselves."
"This has always been somewhat of a DIY community musically," he says.
"Because of that, we appreciate it more because we are the ones who are actually making the sacrifices for our music.
It's not someone in a record company office a few thousand miles away.
They're not making the calls for us or taking meetings for us.
We also see the fruits of our labor a lot better because we're the ones who are writing the checks, so in turn, we're the ones who receive the checks."
He adds, "I don't like people to play with my money, so I don't want to play with anyone's money when I'm involved in these things
